How has the city of Hagi, which is described as “Japan’s hometown dear to our hearts” been formed?How have the citizens lived in the city of Hagi?In this exhibition we’d like to search for the original home of the city.

“The bird’s-eye view of Hagi city” (1932), painted when this city organized as a municipality

Hatsusaburo Yoshida painted a lot of sightseeing maps of bird’s-eye view when a network of rails began to get organized through Japan.Not only historic sites, noted places for cherry blossoms and sea bathing places, but also Hagi pottery shops and hotels were drawn.

The posters, picture postcards, etc. of the Hagi Historic Sites Industrial Exposition (1935)

The Industrial Exposition was held to introduce the historic sites of Hagi and to develop Hagi’s economy.The movement of preserving the sites from the Hagi town days and recognizing them went forward.
