The Specially Created Exhibition

Chase the legendary Whale King!

―Pinocchio’s Report on Exploring the Whale―

  July 2, Saturday, 2011 〜 September 4, Sunday, 2011
  Project-based Exhibition Room

The whale, which everybody including children is familiar with, stems from the story “the King of the sea.”Since ancient times many whales have migrated to the sea of Japan. However, it is hard to gain a true understanding of the image life and variety of whales from this story. In the Hagi・Kitaura district, there were two different kinds of whaling, old and modern, which was a prosperous livelihood and a lot of whales have migrated to the waters of the Sea of Japan since ancient times. However, people around here have not had a close affinity and a deep interest in whales. Therefore, we adopted the Hagiscape into the scene of the fairy tale “Pinocchio”, resulting in a magnificent narrative type exhibition of about 20 different kinds of whales which migrated to these waters. Please take your time to enjoy this interesting exhibition in the museum.
